That’s perfectly okay. Art therapy is not about talent or performance. If making art doesn’t feel right for you, we can simply talk. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Certified Art Therapist, I tailor therapy to your comfort level and your needs.
I have been an art therapist since 2006 and specialize in helping adults use creative and practical tools to feel better. You don’t need to be an artist, writer, or musician to benefit from expressive or creative therapies. Creative thinking can be a powerful way to manage stress, trauma, anxiety, and chronic illness.
In sessions, I may incorporate:
These tools are designed to help you learn how to support yourself outside of therapy as well.
Many people need support coping with pain, stress, trauma, or chronic illness. Therapy can provide a space where you feel heard, supported, and less alone. Together, we focus on building coping skills you can easily integrate into your daily routine to help take the edge off.
Clients often learn how to:
Therapy can be goal-oriented and short-term, or we can explore things more deeply — at your pace. My role is to help you learn effective coping skills and strategies. You are always in control, and we will work together as a team to find the approaches that work best for you.

Sometimes it's hard to know if which therapist is the right fit. You may need to "shop around" Looking for a therapist is like looking for the perfect hairdresser, it just has to feel right. You need to feel comfortable and that you can trust them and are able to open up. I will always do my best to make you feel at ease, but in the end, you need to trust your gut to know if we are a good fit.

All therapy is individualized, so it really depends on you. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you to reframe your thoughts. I am an Integrative Mental Health Specialist so we discuss how the brain and body work together and I will make suggestions to optimize your physical and mental well-being. I assign "homework" which may relate to diet, movement, watching a podcast, writing or other creative outlets. Ultimately, I am not the boss of you! You decide where it goes and how much you are willing to do for the best results. We may incorporate:
Roxy is an amazing greeter with great instincts. She will interact with you as much as you encourage her to. She usually spends the session sleeping under the table behind me and never gets up to say goodbye! I have never heard her gossip :)
Not at all. Art therapy is about expression and self-discovery, not artistic skill or talent. Many clients who say they are “not creative” benefit greatly from creative therapy techniques.
If art-based activities do not feel comfortable, we can focus entirely on traditional talk therapy. Therapy is tailored to what works best for you.

Therapy length varies depending on your goals. Some clients attend short-term, goal-focused therapy, while others choose longer-term support. We regularly review progress together and adjust as needed. Each session is 55 minutes long.
